In the heart of Granville Island Market you will find a culinary adventure – Edible Canada. This six-year-old business which embraces the farm to table concept has quickly grown to be a local favourite and a “must-see” for every Vancouver tourist. Edible Canada promotes their experience as “sightseeing for your taste buds” and we found that it truly is a choose-your-own-adventure. Whether you are dining in their bistro, perusing the retail shop, taking a cooking class, or grabbing from their new take-out window you will find the “best of local.”

Recognized by the We Heart Local Awards as their Favourite Local Advocate, Edible Canada is proud to celebrate local and sustainable producers from all over Canada. Edible Canada, formerly Edible British Columbia, naturally admits a strong focus on British Columbia products. Their local partners, including over 30 Canadian farms, inspire all of their seasonal and “market fresh fare.”

Upon entering Edible Canada’s full service bistro there is an instant feeling of homey comfort. The open kitchen billows with the mouth-watering aromas of the evening’s spread. Be prepared, the dinner menu, loaded with meals boasting each feature’s origin, makes decisions difficult. The Fraser Valley Squash Soup and Heirloom Beets and Carrots were among many favourites, and that’s only the first course! We suggest opting to ask one of the many charming hosts at Edible Canada for suggestions on meals and drinks, as they too share your love for the best that Canada has to offer. Perhaps order several dishes and share – why choose just one?! Not only does Edible Canada support local growers and farmers but also local wine makers, brew masters, and distillers. No matter what the order at Edible Canada is, we are convinced it will not disappoint.

The Edible Canada retail shop is a necessary destination on your Granville Island shopping adventure; however, it certainly warrants more than a few minutes. Showcasing the product from over 100 artisan producers, this corner of the Edible Canada space is full of unique local culinary finds. Consider this shop to be your “one-stop-shop for the best of BC.” Taking the time to read the label is stealing a moment to explore our culinary environment. We were thrilled to find that if you are unable to visit the shop the have a convenient online store and gourmet gift basket service – make note for the upcoming holiday season!

Next on our to-do list is attending one of their many events. From guest chefs and Whiskey Dinners, to wine tastings and Gourmet Kayaking Weekend excursions the adventure goes far beyond your typical dining experience. Plan ahead using the Edible Canada calendar of events but like we stress – plan ahead! This space doubles as Granville Island’s unofficial social-hub and their popular events will sell out well in advance.

Explore everything that BC and Canada have to offer by visiting Edible Canada. Let us know what you think!
